To: Domino’s Pizza

Dear Domino’s,

You’ve had it rough from all those people trash-talking your pizza products throughout the years. Was it deserved? I think that’s negotiable. Some people enjoy taking that first bite into the pizza to have all the toppings, including the cheese, slide right off into their laps with a slice of tomato sauce-covered dough left hanging limp in between their fingers. Some people (like myself)…not so much.

So you decided to change your recipe a few months ago? Awesome call! We all need a little change! Plus, words hurt. It’s totally understandable. After years of writing you all off, I decided I was ready to give you another shot. I love to root for the underdog, and let’s face it, you guys are the epitome of the underdog. My family and I were excited about trying the new recipe. I even managed to block the image of me throwing up a little in my mouth while eating your pizza when I was younger. That’s TRUE excitement!

We got the pizza, and I took that important first bite. I was pleasantly surprised… or so I thought. Somehow, I’d convinced my self that the pizza wasn’t as bland as it actually tasted. That my tastebuds were throwing a party in my mouth, shocking my senses to their core.

No, it was all a lie. My own body LIED to me.

Domino’s, your pizza is STILL disgusting. Please stop making these commercials about how awesome and so much better than the competition your pizza is because it’s NOT, and I was disappointed. Thoroughly.

Why are your sides so delicious and your pizza so nasty?! Please tell me why?? And why did you get rid of Domino’s Dots? Those were the BEST things EVER.

See, you DO make products that I like. It just so happens that your pizza is an epic fail.

Maybe instead of Domino’s Pizza, it could be Domino’s Side Items.

Bring back the Dots! Thank you for your time.

I’m not going away again, though. I’m trying to find some balance in my schedule to do everything, including this blog, and let’s just say I haven’t ironed out the kinks just yet.

I wanted to stop in and thank you guys for being sooooooo flippin’ patient with me and not coming at me with torches and pitchforks!

To hold you over… okay, and to show off a little bit… my little brother kicked MAJOR ARSE at his school’s talent show last week. Took home first place and everything! So here’s the video of that:

I wish I would have kept recording once he finished and walked off stage because he got MOBBED. Seriously. It was like effing Beatlemania in that school auditorium. Some girl asked him for his autograph…er…? Random, much?

Anyway, don’t forget about me! I haven’t forgotten you guys. My life has just been hit with some soon-to-be-organized chaos that I have to work out.

All right, I’m about 4 days late, but you know what? If you really think about it, every day is the start of a new year so stick that up your pie hole!

Now, I’m not big on making New Year’s resolutions. Most of the time I’m forced into coming up with a list of them, knowing that the list will be lost in the clutter that is my brain space within the timespan of…hmm…five minutes?

I totally get that January 1st is a big time for people to make big changes because it marks the big beginning of the big calendar year, but midnight marks the beginning of another day! Two o’clock is the beginning of happy hour at Sonic drive-ins! B is the beginning of my first name! The point is, there are beginnings everywhere. Every minute is another moment to try something new. Thus, why I’m not big on New Years’ resolutions.

However, I’m not knocking you guys who love resolutions. That’s cool, too.

Backtracking to January 1st, I spent part of the day at work, part of the afternoon shopping, and the evening and rest of the night at my best friend‘s house with a group of friends. There was some minor drama, but overall, it was a total blast.

I had been somewhat bummed about not being able to go out and find a stranger to makeout with, but once I was in the moment (and one cute outfit later), pizza and friends (and daquiris) was a pretty shweet alternative. Oh, and guess what? I actually did the whole “What did you accomplish this year? What are your resolutions for next year?” thing.

What did I accomplish this year, my friends?
Well, for starters, I managed to stay employed all year long. At least…that’s what I told everyone. Only to now realize that it wasn’t entirely true. I was out of work between April and August, no thanks to the economy crashing and my ex-GM at a certain Borders bookstore being a total douche by neglecting to tell me that I was laid off in the first place. (*Note* I’m not even gonna lie, I really like telling the story about how I lost my job at the bookstore because I love the “DAMN THE MAN!” comradery that usually follows.)

Yeah, you suck!

After calling several times and showing up at the store a couple of times, flat out asking “DID. I. GET. FIRED?” (“No,” said a manager.) and still not being scheduled hours, it got to a point where I wasn’t even in a place to start looking for another job because I was out of town for a month (July ’09: Two coasts, one month) so I was basically screwed over.

The icing on the cake was when I showed up to visit some friends there in August (at this point, in the midst of a big job search) and they were joking around by telling a manager that I was in the store because I was coming to get my job back. They were indeed RE-hiring previous employees. The manager was like, “Really??” All excited-like. Uh…no. In my mind, it was more like, “HELL NO!” If they didn’t have the decency to tell me that they were kicking me off of the schedule back in the spring—No, actually, if they were stupid enough to let the awesomeness that is ME go, there was no way I was going to return to that place to work! Morons. I’d never been dumped. By a boyfriend (though I’m almost certain it’ll happen someday…) or by a job. So Borders said bookstore has made my eternal shitlist. Wait, no, just the GM there for failing to notify me of the discontinued need for my amazing services.

Yeah, I’ve been itching to get that story out for months now. Where was I? Oh yeah, things I’ve accomplished. Besides the whole job thing, I think I may have also mentioned being able to overcome the huge fight I had with my BFF. Hooray for being grown-ups! Our friendship is stronger than ever now. I’m pretty much in love with it.

What are my resolutions for 2010?
When I was young and an idiot, my resolutions were along the lines of “I’m gonna find LUV this year!” *Eyes immediately glaze over and become anime-style* Screw that. I love love and all, but no. That resolution is lame. Plus, I’ve been single FOREVER so finding love is probably third on my list of “Things I NEED to do in life.” Right below “Travel tons,” “have amazing friends” and “make money to afford said travel.” Hmm…I guess that makes it fourth. Whatever! My resolutions this year are as follows:

• Write a book. Yeah, I said it. I’m writing a book this year. Notice I did not say, “I’m going to attempt to write a book.” No. I’m writing (and finishing) it. If it’s the only piece of creative writing I do this year, I’m writing a book!

• Take more pictures while hanging out with friends. When I’m in Florida, I take pictures with friends all the time, but in Louisiana, my camera is apparently only used for decoration. I have awesome friends here and we have good times together, but I guess we’re so caught up in the moment that pictures to preserve the memories don’t even come up.

I think those are easily done. I started already!

That’s some shweet “crazy face” I’m making there.

Love Lila is still on hiatus until January, but I thought I’d take a break from my break to give you my review of Disney’s newest 2D animated film, The Princess and the Frog.

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you probably knew that I was patiently awaiting the release of this movie. There was just so much to be excited about! 2D animation, an African-American Louisiana native in the lead role (as a Louisiana native myself, that alone was enough to make me run around in circles with glee), and a musical? UM, YES PLEASE!

The Princess and the Frog is [obviously] a modern retelling of a classic fairytale… with a little voodoo on the side. Tiana, a waitress from New Orleans who dreams of opening her own restaurant someday, gets thrown off her path when she gets tangled up in the messy web that Naveen, the carefree (and broke) prince of Maldonia, has created for himself by toying with the evil and greedy Dr. Facilier.

I knew the movie was going to be really cute, but it was actually better than I expected it to be. Not saying that my expectations were low, but they weren’t sky high either. The theater was packed, and we were at the first showing this morning, but I was thrilled to see that families of all races were bringing their children to see it, especially with all the “controversy” surrounding the film. One of my brothers is actually boycotting the movie because the prince isn’t black. People are entitled to their own opinions, but thank goodness I don’t feel that way.

The humor in the film was awesome; Laughter (of children and adults) roared throughout the theater quite a few times. It definitely captured the essence of New Orleans… though it was much cleaner in the movie, haha!

The one thing I was really worried about was the music. Randy Newman did the music for the film and I hadn’t been hearing great things about it, but I figured it couldn’t be that bad since he did the music for Cats Don’t Dance and I LOVE the songs in that one! Long story short, I thought the songs were awesome and loved how they touched on a little jazz, a little gospel, a little zydeco, etc…

Without giving anything away, I wish they would have done a little more with the background of the villain. His intentions about why he does what he does isn’t immediately clear, but you do understand it by the end of the movie. And the way the villain makes his final exit, well, I’m gonna put it right up there with the “OMG, YOU ARE F-ED”-ness of Scar (The Lion King) or Frollo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame). I looked over at my best friend and just said, “I would be scarred for life after seeing that.”

Final Verdict: GO SEE IT! If only to see the return of 2D animation, go see it! My family was still singing the songs hours after we left the theater. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll leave with the sweet satisfaction of seeing a truly charming film. It’s definitely worth the watch! Plus, it has a good message about “what really counts” in life. The theater totally erupted in applause when it was over. It was GRAND.
